Our Class Information

Hi Everyone, I’m Mrs Telford but most of the children call me Mrs T. I’m very excited to be working back in year 2; this is where I began at Stokesay 16 years ago! Now I feel old! Our class is called Croft Class and Mrs Winter and Mrs Walden will be working with us too. I’m not in on a Friday (as this is my Mummy day :) ) so Mrs Upton will be covering.

The doors open at 8.45am, and the register is taken as soon as we can so that we can start our learning straight away! The children usually come in by themselves, organise their own bags, coat,  etc and settle down to the morning activity. The morning activity may vary from maths, handwriting, grammar and punctuation activity, or quiet reading.

PE, this year is on a Friday, however, we ask children to keep their kits in school all week as sometimes the day may change. Please make sure your child has shorts, joggers/leggings , T-shirt, hoody/ jumper and pumps/trainers for PE and please could I ask that all items are named. We will be going outside for PE whenever possible so the children will need warm clothes.  They also need their hair tied back and earrings taken out on these days or covered with tape.

We will change reading books on a Monday and Thursday if your child has read and finished their book. If you do finish the book after the first night, please re-read it as this will help your child develop their fluency. I’m sure you have lots of lovely books at home you can share with your children too. Reading to them is as important as them reading to you :)

The children will be coming home with spellings and mental maths for the week too. If they could practise these at home that would be amazing. This doesn’t always have to be through writing them down. They may chant them, play games with them…be as imaginative as you like! If you could pop a not in planner to tell me how your child has been practising that would be really helpful. Use the planners for any notes/messages you have for me.

This term our topic is The Great Fire of London! I haven't taught this for a few years and I’m so excited as it’s a great topic. It’s really interesting and the children love finding out what happened all those years ago! Science we are learning about Materials, Computing will be E-safety, and Art, Music and PE all linking to The Great Fire of London. Mrs Upton has some very exciting sessions planned too.

English, Maths and Phonics will be happening daily.

Thank you for your continued support, any questions please do come and ask (after school is always best)

Looking forward to a great year! Mrs T  :)
